Charlie Strong’s tenure at Texas reminds me of your past girlfriend or boyfriend. You know, the one that seemed exciting and promising, but was crazy, or a stage 5 clinger, or something of the sorts. You know the relationship is over, but you can’t find a way to break it to the other person. This is the awkward situation that Texas fans (and apparently staff) have been in since at least the beginning of the season.
On Saturday 11-26-2016 the athletic director will sit Charlie down and have a DTR. I’m not sure if the kids these days still use this acronym but it stands for Determine The Relationship. The writing is on the wall. Charlie is the nice guy that your parents like but he doesn’t do “it” for you. And by “it”, I mean WIN GAMES! He’s a good recruiter, overall stand up kind of guy that is generally well liked. So it’s hard. You feel bad breaking up with someone like that, but it’s got to be done.
You should’ve known by the company he keeps. He’s been through so many coordinators, it’s hard to remember their names. In his brief three year stent at UT he has replaced every single coordinator and assistant coach except for Vance Bedford. Even Bedford got demoted and probably wouldn’t have lasted another season if Texas decided to keep Charlie.
I’m being picky at this point, but he also didn’t know how to dress. Who wears a mock turtleneck in Texas in the middle of August?!?!? And like I said, at this point you’re just trying to find reasons to break up and hopefully let them down easy. Charlie, it’s not you, it’s me. That’s a damn lie! It was definitely you that lost to Kansas…. KANSAS!!! Most definitely you that got shut out by Iowa State and blown out by TCU. You’ve had your bright spots: back to back top ten recruiting classes, wins over the likes of Oklahoma, Baylor (twice), and Notre Dame. What I’m trying to say is that I like you as a friend Charlie, but I don’t “like you” like you. I truly wish you the best and know you’ll find someone (somewhere) else that will love you for who you are.
